The Hospital Employees Union says the government needs to ensure staffing levels at residential care homes are maintained.
Jennifer Whiteside says the province should also be considering a Plan B.
That’s in the wake of the Chinese government taking charge of the operations of Anbang Insurance.
The company owns Retirement Concepts which has 20 care homes throughout the province, including the Nanaimo Seniors Village and Stanford Seniors Village in Parksville.
Whiteside says while the Chinese government looks to rein in the debt of Anbang Insurance, staffing levels in our care homes may become a target…..
As far as a Plan B, Whiteside says the province should investigate a business case for purchasing and operating the seniors care homes if the Chinese government puts the facilities on the chopping block.
