Counterfeit Money Circulating in Sechelt area

Sunshine Coast RCMP is warning retailers and the public to be aware of counterfeit money circulating throughout the region.

The bills in question are counterfeit one hundred dollar bills in Sechelt.

For most newer-series banknotes, the Bank of Canada asks you to check for difficult to counterfeit features.

Those include a hologram in the transparent window of the bill, raised ink in places including the phrase Bank of Canada, and transparent outline around the maple leaf.

Retailers can educate themselves and staff by visiting the Bank of Canada website and reading up on recognizing counterfeit money.
