People facing addiction, mental health and housing challenges will have access to more housing in Nanaimo and the Sunshine Coast.
The province announced that two hundred of what they call complex-care housing are on the way for communities across the province and some will be built in Sechelt and Nanaimo.
The units come with personalized healthcare services and the goal of keeping people housed for as long as possible.
“Their complex needs can lead to a cycle of evictions, stays in shelters and repeated visits to emergency rooms,” said Jennifer Whiteside, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions.
Services are coordinated with healthcare providers and can include counselling, peer support or access to social workers.
