Nanaimo RCMP arrest three adults for stealing bicycles, return them to owners

Missing bicycles were returned to their owners thanks to Nanaimo RCMP’s Special Investigations Targeted Enforcement Unit (SITE).

The three bikes were valued at a collective total of $10,000 and three men aged 35 to 49 were arrested for possession of stolen property.

Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien said it’s important to protect your bikes to prevent thieves from stealing them.

“We would be remiss in not reminding cyclists to always take pictures of their bikes including serial numbers, and to lock bikes when they are left in public areas.  Also, if the bike is stolen to report the theft to the police with pictures as soon as possible.”

The three stolen bikes ranged from full suspension mountain bikes to an electric bike and were found at various locations across the city.

SITE officers were conducting patrols in high crime areas in Nanaimo and found repeat property offenders in possession of expensive looking bikes.

All officers were aware of previous reported bike thefts and thanks to photos provided of the bikes and serial numbers they were able to arrest the adults and seize the bikes.

Charges for the three are yet to be formalized and the names of the accused cannot be released.
