Motorcycle stunt driving needs to end, Nanaimo RCMP

Six individuals will now face charges after Nanaimo RCMP investigated an incident involving street racing and stunt driving last summer.

Police say charges will vary between the two youth and four men but range from Drive without Due Care, Fail to Stop for a red light, riding without a helmet, and operating a vehicle without displaying plates.

Reserve constable Gary O’Brien says they received several complaints regarding the incident and action of this nature isn’t condoned and puts the public in serious jeopardy.

“We received several reports from concerned citizens relating to motorcyclists involved in dangerous practices such as stunting, riding on sidewalks, and not wearing helmets,” he says. “This behaviour jeopardized the safety of motoring public, pedestrians, and motorcyclists alike, and an investigation was launched.”

He adds most motorcycle operators operate within the law, and laying these charges serves as a wake-up call for those who don’t.

“There are those who were blatantly disregarding these rules and were putting others at risk,” he says. “We hope these charges are a wake-up call for those involved and put a stop to this dangerous practice,” he says.

The investigation is ongoing, and O’Brien says more individuals could face charges.
