Four people rescued after Snake Island landing craft incident

Four people were rescued on the weekend after a landing craft incident near Snake Island.

At 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, Hullo Ferries received a marine distress call of a 32-foot landing craft run aground near the Island, northeast of Nanaimo, affecting four people.

The incident saw a rescue effort involving Hullo, Canadian Coast Guard, and Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, with Hullo saying their crew responded immediately after the call.

“Thanks to the vessel’s high-speed capabilities, the Hullo crew arrived on scene within 10 minutes after the Victoria Coast Guard requested assistance from vessels in the area,” said Hullo Ferries.

“Upon arrival, the Hullo crew deployed their rescue boat and found all four people had made it to the beach on Snake Island.”
